SACO Bienal de Arte Contemporáneo | Antofagasta, Chile
For the first time, SAHA is supporting the SACO Biennial, organized in Antofagasta between June 24 – September 14, 2025, as part of the project by Mustafa Avcı, Ahmet Rüstem Ekici, Hakan Sorar and Fırat Arapoğlu. Titled Dark Ecosystems,the biennial emphasizes the connection between art and science, seeking to showcase contemporary artworks in spaces that allow for direct dialogue and contact between artists and the public.
Curated by Fırat Arapoğlu, Mustafa Avcı will participate with a work titled Echoes of a Forgotten Field, while Ahmet Rüstem Ekici and Hakan Sorar will present their collaborative work titled Inhabiting the Void.
Ahmet Rüstem Ekici and Hakan Sorar,A duo that fuses their training in interior architecture and engineering with art and technology. They explore themes of the body, architecture, and optical perception, reinterpreting the narrative language of surfaces and archaeological objects through fluid digital imaging techniques. Their collaborative works delve into the relationships between space and the body, questioning the boundaries of the digital and physical worlds. ,
Mustafa Avcı,Economist, Master and PhD in Ethnomusicology. His academic research focuses on topics such as gender in Ottoman and Turkish society (including köçeklik), music and dance, the history of sound and noise, and the music of the Ottoman diaspora in America (1890-1970). As an artist, composer, and creator of theater and film music, he has contributed installations, film scores, theater music, and contemporary art projects to such events as the Istanbul Biennial, Mardin Biennial, Istanbul Film Festival, and Istanbul Theater Festival.
Fırat Arapoğlu is an art historian, critic, and independent curator based in Istanbul, where he works as an associate professor in the Department of Common Courses at Altınbaş University. He has curated numerous exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Among the art magazines he has contributed to in Turkey and abroad are Sanat Dünyamız, Genç Sanat, Art-İst Modern &, Actual, ICE, ARTAM, Art Unlimited, Eleştirel Kültür, RH+, İstanbul Art News, Artdog İstanbul, Varlık, and Flash Art. He has written articles on art and art education, presented papers at national and international symposia, and authored book chapters. He has given lectures and workshops at the Istanbul Modern Art Museum, Moda Sahnesi, Atölye Maçka, Narmanlı Art, Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center, and Istanbul Bilgi University. He is a member of the International Association of Art Critics.
About SACO Bienal
Since 2004, the SACO Cultural Corporation, they have created and managed projects autonomously and collaboratively in Antofagasta, Chile. They seek to position the Atacama Desert as a focal point for the field of art and transdisciplinary research, energizing, nurturing, and professionalizing the local scene.
